Muscle Movement, Maximized

Loss of leg muscle strength is a common problem after surgical procedures such as total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

The L360 Thigh System uses neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) and functional electrical stimulation (FES) technologies to address post-surgical muscle weakness by helping to:

  • Strengthen the quadriceps and hamstring muscles
  • Improve knee stability
  • Prevent or retard disuse atrophy

About NMES and FES

The L360 Thigh System includes a lightweight cuff that is wrapped around the thigh, with embedded electrodes placed over the affected muscles. The electrodes are connected to a stimulator, and a wireless pulse generator delivers and regulates the timing and intensity of stimulation to the electrodes.

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) provides a series of controlled electrical pulses to promote contractions in weakened muscles. NMES is commonly used to improve muscular strength after injury or surgery.3

In addition, the L360 uses another type of stimulation—functional electrical stimulation (FES) — for orthopaedic rehabilitation. FES is designed to be task-specific and to support rehabilitation during everyday activities such as walking and cycling. FES not only facilitates recruitment of weakened or inhibited muscles but also provides timely activation to support functional recovery.

The L360 Thigh System's Key Features

null
3D Motion Detection: A proprietary adaptive algorithm that adjusts to kinematic changes in real time, deploying stimulation in 1/100 of second, precisely when needed.
null
Electrical Stimulation Modes: Targeted stimulation occurs in three distinct modes, including FES gait and cycle training modes and an NMES training mode.
null
Fast, Intuitive Set-up: There are no wires or onboard controls; a Quick Start Fitting Mode and Bluetooth® programming significantly reduce set-up time and maximize the productivity of each therapy session.
null
Outcome Measures: Standardized assessments make it easy to objectively track and document patient progress.

Indications for Use: The L360 Thigh System is intended to assist knee flexion or extension in adult individuals with muscle weakness related to upper motor neuron disease/injury (e.g., stroke, damage to pathways to the spinal cord). The L360 Thigh System electrically stimulates muscles in the affected leg to provide knee flexion or extension; thus, it also may improve the individual’s gait.

The L360 Thigh System may also facilitate muscle re-education, prevent/retard disuse atrophy, maintain or increase joint range of motion, increase local blood flow, provide early post-surgical quadriceps and hamstring strengthening, improve post-surgical knee stability secondary to quadriceps and hamstring strengthening, and relax muscle spasms.

L360 Thigh System is contraindicated in patients with a demand-type cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator or any electrical implant. Do not use the system on a leg where metallic implant is directly underneath the electrodes, a cancerous lesion is present or suspected, or on a leg with regional disorder (e.g., fracture or dislocation) which could be adversely affected by motion from the stimulation. Use caution in patients with diagnosed or suspected cardiac problems or epilepsy.
